Remember when I said Alabama remains a fertile ground of Grambling recruiting?
No, really: GSU added two Alabama more prospects on Tuesday, bringing its confirmed commitment list to nine on the eve of National Signing Day. They are DE/TE Michael Boone out of Anniston and SLB Jonathon Drake of Minor in Adamsville, Ala. (Click HERE for Grambling’s complete signing class of 2009, first published by TheDerisoReport.com.)
Boone (6-1/220) is a do-anything player who played defensive end, tight end and, in a pinch, even filled in at fullback. He said he made 120 tackles, scored four touchdowns and gained for more than 50 yards out of the backfield.
Drake’s father James, meanwhile, is a former high school classmate of Grambling assistant coach Andre Robinson, who recruited both players.
“I let him make up his mind,” said James Drake, whose son (6-1/215) visited GSU last weekend. “When he saw the campus, he really enjoyed it. It was his decision.”
Boone, who runs a 4.9 in the 40-yard dash, is a former high school team mate of current Grambling offensive lineman Quint Roberts: “He went down there told me about the experience, and that was really enlightening to me. Hopefully, he can help guide me around.”
Boone, a one-star recruit, was also interested in Florida State, Georgia, Texas and Virginia State.
