Complete black college polls: Grambling loss creates extreme makeover

Grambling’s overtime stumble at Texas Southern, coupled with a Bethune-Cookman victory over Howard, sparked a major reshuffling of the black college football polls for the first time in weeks.

Bethune, which improved to 10-0 for the first time in school history and clinched a share of the conference title, is now atop the Sheridan, Heritage Sports Radio Network Division I-FCS, BoxtoRow/BASN and Urban Sports News polls for HBCU programs.

Albany State is No. 2 according to both the Sheridan and the Boxtorow/BASN media rankings, while South Carolina State is behind Bethune in the USN and Heritage Sports Radio Network polls.

Grambling dropped to a concensus No. 4 in the Sheridan, Heritage Sports Radio Network, Boxtorow/BASN media and Cavil’s rankings, and is at No. 5 in the Urban Sports News poll. Meanwhile, Texas Southern shot up to two spots to No. 2 with Dr. Cavil’s, and appears between No. 3 (HSRN) and No. 6 (Sheridan) elsewhere.

File this under, No Love: You won’t find Alabama State — despite having just clinched the 2010 Eastern Division crown and a berth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Game — in either the Sheridan Broadcasting Network or the Boxtorow.com/BlackAthlete.com media Top 10 polls.

The Hornets are all the way down at No. 6 according to the Heritage Sports Radio Network and Dr. Cavil’s major division rankings, No. 7 in the weekly Urban Sports News poll — and received just one lonely vote in the Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25.

Elsewhere nationally, Bethune-Cookman climbed three spots in the Sports Network poll, while Grambling is down five notches to No. 25.
