Complete black college football polls, Week 2: South Carolina State a consensus No. 1

South Carolina State remains the consensus No. 1 team in black college football, with Albany State at No. 2 according to Sheridan, Jackson State at No. 2 according to the Urban Sports Network and Dr. Cavil’s; and Bethune-Cookman — after a stunning loss to the top-ranked Bulldogs — dropped at No. 2 according to the Heritage Sports Radio Network.

“That’s the beauty of college football, there are upsets on any given week,” said USN analyst Henry Bailey. “Bethune looked like they were headed to the Black College national championship last week. South Carolina State had other ideas. Bethune and Texas Southern dominated their games statistically and lost due to mistakes and turnovers.”

South Carolina State and Jackson State are Nos. 1-2 in the Urban Sports Network’s black college football poll, followed by Bethune-Cookman. The top of the Dr. Cavil’s poll is identical, but South Carolina State and Jackson State are followed by Hampton at No. 3. South Carolina State also moved up to No. 25 amongst all FCS programs, according to the Sports Network; Jackson State and Hampton were the highest ranking HBCUs also receiving votes.
