Complete black college football polls, Week 4: The return of a consensus (well, almost) No. 1

South Carolina State is almost back to consensus status, after destroying once-resurgent MEAC foe Delaware State. The Bulldogs are now atop the Sheridan Broadcasting Network, Heritage Sports Radio Network, and the Urban Sports News polls. Dr. Cavil’s Black College Major Division Football Top 10 Rankings, meanwhile, have the SWAC’s Alabama State at No. 1.

“South Carolina State moves to No. 1 this week, but Alabama State is waiting in the wings,” said John Posey, CEO of Urban Sports News. “UAPB, Winston-Salem State, Morehouse and Stillman are winning and not getting a lot of respect in the other polls. Stillman beat Tuskegee, so we think this team bears watching. If Texas Southern beats Jackson State, keep your eye on them. Their offense is young and will only get better. Coach Northern has the Prairie View Panthers playing hard. His two freshman quarterbacks are getting better every week. If they beat Grambling Saturday, they not only end Grambling’s hopes for a SWAC West title, but control their destiny for a west championship.”

South Carolina State also moved up from No. 25 to 22 in the Sports Network national rankings of FCS programs.
