Complete black college football polls, Week 7: Bunched up records, but not votes

The records are bunched up, but the concensus amongst voters in the black college football polls is not.

Alabama State sits atop the Sheridan Broadcasting Network, Dr. Cavil’s, Heritage Sports Radio Network and the Urban Sports Network polls. Meanwhile, Norfolk State is at No. 2 on the Sheridan, Heritage, USN and Dr. Cavil’s. Jackson is No. 3, according to Heritage, USN and Dr. Cavil’s, as well.

All three teams sit at 6-1 on the year.

Defending Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division champ Alabama State, now ranked No. 19 in the national Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top-25 College Football Poll, is coming off a resounding win over SWAC West leader Prairie View 20-7, a game which saw the Hornets jump out to a 17-0 halftime lead. Reggie Barlow and Co. face rival Alabama A&M in the Magic City Classic following a bye week.

“The Alabama State defense is loaded with playmakers in the linebacker corps and secondary,” said John Posey, CEO of Urban Sports News. “Kejuan Riley, Leland Baker, and Saeed Lee headline a defense that limited an explosive Prairie View defense to only seven points. Add in the All-American candidate Nick Andrews at wide receiver and the Hornets are a difficult team to beat.”
